New York State Sales Tax Notice
From October 1, 2010, through March
31, 2011, New York State sales tax applies to clothing
and footwear that costs under $110. Recent legislation
eliminated the exemption. Starting October 1, 2010,
clothing and footwear costing less than $110 will be
subject to:
- 4% New York State sales and use tax
- ⅜% tax in the Metropolitan Commuter Transportation
District, if applicable
Impact on local taxes
For localities that don't have a local sales
tax exemption, all sales of clothing and footwear will be
subject to the full state and local sales tax.
For localities that have a local sales tax
exemption, sales of eligible clothing and footwear costing less than $110 will
remain exempt from local sales tax, but will be subject to the
4% state sales tax (and ⅜% MCTD sales tax, if applicable).

typically set to the location's normal tax rate (State +
Local) and Tax Table 2 is typically set for the reduced
tax rate (Local); in most cases, by reassigning any
departments that were previously set to Tax Table 2 over
to Tax Table 1, your register should now calculate the
